All the buzz about my Honeycomb Hill fabric collection.

A stack of Honeycomb Hill fabric.

I know it’s hard to bee-lieve, but it’s time to introduce you to another fabric collection! I couldn’t bee happier to share Honeycomb Hill, my next collection with Riley Blake Designs, which will arrive in shops next April. Today I’m giving a preview of this bee-utiful collection as part of Riley Blake Design’s Virtual Quilt Market.

Honeycomb Hill is, if you haven’t figured it out already, inspired by the sweet little honeybee. I love bees and find them to be truly fascinating the more I learn about them. And it’s no wonder we’re inspired by bees. They buzz around the world, going about their irreplaceable work, with little notice or appreciation from us. I love to plant pollinator friendly plants in my yard and maybe in another life I would be a beekeeper, collecting my own honey. But for now I’ll just admire them from afar. I hope you enjoy this delightfully sweet collection.

Honeycomb Hill is full of bees, of course, but there is also an abundance of flowers, along with honeycomb, mini hexagons and a cute gingham. In the main print there are clusters of beehives (I actually learned this kind of beehive is called a bee skep!) with flowers and tiny little bees buzzing around. There’s a tightly packed but loose floral print. The Winged print has geometric rows of bees with decorative wings. And Pretty Petals blends well as a cute ditsy floral. The monochromatic honeycomb print has a flower inside a hexagon shape and can almost act like a solid. Mini Hexies has widely scattered hexagons that looks similar to a polka dot and the adorable little gingham seemed like it just had to be in a collection like this.

Honeycomb Hill used in Melissa Mortenson’s quilt design, Summer Sugar.

The color palette is a warm rainbow of pinks and peaches, mustard yellows, and shades of blue, including a deep navy that gives it nice depth. Melissa Mortenson’s quilt pattern called “Summer Sugar” looks great with these fabrics and you can find the pattern on her site or order it from Riley Blake’s website. There’s also a pixelated quilt pattern called “Hive a Look-See” that will be available as a free quilt pattern. Honeycomb Hill will also be a versatile collection for sewing apparel and bags. It’s always exciting to see all your creations when new fabric comes out.
