That's a sneak peek of a new illustration I've been working on, to go along with my "Storytime" series. It was inspired by our recent family vacation to Clearwater Beach, Florida. My kids love dolphins and we visited a marine aquarium and went on a dolphin sightseeing cruise which, I'll admit, was WAY cooler than I expected. We got to see dolphins swimming and jumping right up alongside the boat. My kids were literally jumping up and down they were so excited. I should have done a better jump of recording all the impressions from our trip: colors, patterns, etc. but I guess I was too busy just vacationing! Here's a wee collage to give you a taste of the scenery. The town itself was a riot of color - so different from my upper midwest home. I think the entire place is on vacation 365 days a year and of course there's a strong tropical color theme on everything from a pink hotel, the green palms, bright floral patterns, and the crystal blue of the water.
Vacations have been a continual theme of our family so far this summer. I think we've been away almost as long as we've been home. They've been wonderful trips but I've gotten NO work done at all (as evidenced by my lack of blog posting!). So come next week I'll be back to the grindstone to get my shop open this summer and do a lot of portfolio building. In the meantime I'll enjoy that carefree breezy feel of the summer for a little longer.
